Local 304 Member Saves a Life

Submitted by LiUNA on May 2, 2008 - 8:40am.

When Local 304 member Gregorio Payan heard cries for help at his San Jose Airport jobsite in February he immediately responded and found piledriver Fernando Limon on the ground bleeding to death from injuries he sustained after becoming entangled in equipment. Payan reacted quickly, cutting caution tape and using it to tie tourniquets on both of Limon's arms. While Limon tragically lost both arms, medics say that without the quick response - which Payan credits to his union safety training -- Limon would have bled to death before an ambulance arrived. In March, Payan was honored at Local 304's union meeting (left in above photo) and also received honors from San Jose's Mayor and City Council.
