History Channel Features LIUNA Local 147’s Sandhogs

A new History Channel series details the heroic, difficult and often dangerous work of LIUNA Local 147’s Sandhogs laboring hundreds of feet below ground to build and repair tunnels, subways, waterlines and other projects, as well as the role members have played in building some of our nation’s most visible structures, such as the Brooklyn Bridge.

The series brings to life the people behind the work as it portrays the everyday struggles of people who accept extraordinary challenges.

For schedule details and additional background on Sandhog history – such as the Sandhog strike of 1872 and the tragic 1982 accident in which a Sandhog was forced to sever his own foot to free himself from wreckage – go to the History Channel’s webpage, www.history.com/minisites/sandhogs.
