LIUNA Members Will Weatherize Single Woman’s Seattle Home for Free in Demonstration of Breakthrough National Program
Seattle, WA – Members of LIUNA – the Laborers' International Union of North America – will
weatherize a low-income Seattle woman’s home on Tuesday, June 30 as part of a demonstration of energy efficiency work that could employ hundreds of local workers in the emerging weatherization industry fueled by federal economic recovery investments.
U.S. Representative Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) and Northwest Region LIUNA Vice PresidentMano Frey will tour the home with workers and discuss federal and state investments in weatherization.
LIUNA has designed a breakthrough national program to train thousands of workers in communitiesacross the country. Trainees learn detailed weatherization skills and have the opportunity to advance in family-supporting careers. The effort, already underway in two other states, can help create a viable new American industry that will put people back to work and help reduce energy bills for millions of families over the next 10 years, reducing our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
